Fiber is good for us. Really

You know... this is just an exciting time for us. Everything is going to be fiber. If you have been keeping up with this information you know the approximate time for all homes in the U.S. to have fiber run to them is 2020. Why fiber? I mentioned earlier more bandwidth essentially to send and receive information. But it does not end there. FTTH will allow a true networked home eventually, where all devices such as TV's, PC's, phones, gaming machines, camcorders and even appliances with IP addresses will have seamless interaction. We want to share information between all of these devices in our homes as well as with family and friends in different locations via Internet.

FTTH certainly provides the bandwidth for such a thing to occur it just is not seamless yet. To get a true connected home we need a solution to manage all of the devices on the home network beyond TR-069. TR-069 CPE WAN Management Protocol (CWMP) is a protocol that was created by the Broadband Forum (formally the DSL Forum) which sets out a common method for CPE (Customer Premise Equipoment) devices to communicate with an Auto Configuration Server (ACS). An ACS can manage a device, trouble shoot, configure, remotely upgrade etc.

TR-069 was created by the Broadband Forum (formally the DSL Forum) to standardize the Wide Area Network (WAN) management of CWMP. Service Providers can now use one common platform to manage, through the Internet, all of their Customer Premise Devices, no matter the device nor the manufacturer. And here I thought the Jetsons cartoon was just far out when I was younger. Now we have the ability to do those things. Those guys 40 years ago were visionaries Imagine that!! Well that is it for now until next time.
